Contacting a Specific Cardiologist
Quick Tips
If you need an inpatient consult or need to transfer a patient, talk to the inpatient cardiologist. If you are calling after hours or over weekends, contact the on-call cardiologist. If you need a semi-urgent clinic visit or want a patient related question answered, contact the outpatient (second-call) cardiologist handling outside phone calls.
Inpatient cardiology Service
Call the PCMC hospital operator: (801)662-1000 and ask for the inpatient cardiologist-on-call. The cardiology fellow may take the message first and handle the transfer or answer questions. If you are in the hospital and know the pager # of the cardiologist or cardiology fellow covering the inpatient service, you may page them directly. Please give both your PCMC extension # and pager # so they can get back to you.
The following are handled by the inpatient cardiologist or the cardiology fellow covering the wards:
- Inpatient transfers from other hospitals
- Inpatient consults
- NICU consults at University Hospital
- Questions related to specific inpatients
Outpatient Clinic Cardiologist
Call PCMC Cardiology (801)662-5400
Calls to the outpatient cardiologist are taken by the scheduling or reception staff and transmitted to the outpatient clinic (second-call) cardiologist by text message (Message Log) and paging. If you need to talk to the cardiologist within 5 or 10 minutes, let the staff know and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Otherwise, you can expect a return phone call as soon as the cardiologist is able.
The following are handled by the outpatient cardiologist assigned to phone calls:
- Setting up a semi-urgent consult within a few days or a week
- Discussing a patient who is in your office
- Discussing a patient we have seen who is under your care
- Any other general cardiology questions
Note that the outpatient and any cardiologist has immediate access to most patient records through the Cardiology Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
On-call Cardiologist - After-hours and Weekends
Call PCMC operator (801)662-1000 and ask to speak to the on-call cardiologist.
The cardiologist covering nights and weekends covers all inpatient and outpatient related issues.
Contacting a Specific Cardiologist
General advice: It is not always easy to reach a specific cardiologist. This should not be surprising because of the multiple different individual and division commitments. That is why we have a specific inpatient cardiologist and an assigned outpatient cardiologist each weekday to cover phone calls as listed above.
Contacting a specific cardiologist: If you feel that the question you have can only be answered by a specific cardiologist, either leave a message with the reception desk or scheduling staff (801)662-5400, Option 1, or contact the secretary for that particular physician.
